The First Quarter message usually brings an optimistic rehash of last year with a hope to stay the course. However, 2020 threw the world a curve ball, and one only hopes that we will be back to normal by 2022. Having had the pleasure to follow three very good presidents, this president feels fortunate.

Danny Blanchard, SRA was president in 2018, and he faced a crisis of his own. The chapter was in disarray with no functional Executive Director, our record keeping was below par, and the Appraisal Institute was not happy.

Nancy Linton-Hall, recommended by Wayne Pugh, MAI, hired in mid-year, after a proper search, has kept us on the straight and narrow, and fully in compliance since then.

Kevin Lemoine, MAI was in office in 2019. He had a firm grasp on the newly designed management system that helps us keep our spending in order, writes our checks, and includes our income tax form preparation.

Janis Bonura, SRA, AI-RRS, served in 2020. Her optimism was refreshing and well connected enough to find locations for our New Orleans seminars and donations for lunch too.

Over the last three years, the chapter has 16 newly designated members, compared to 12 over the previous three. Business wise the chapter has done well with education and the wise management of Wayne Pugh, MAI.

If you are not aware, a chapter needs to make money on every continuing education offering. A year like 2020 can be a disaster for a small organization. Even with little education income, the pandemic precluded travel by officers, and our bottom line was consistent with the pre-Covid budget.

As the first repeat president of the Louisiana Chapter, since the 1989 merger with the SREA, this writer knows a thing or two. It was different world as president in 2001, well there was September 11; in a way, chaos is a part of most years. Therefore, we have all probably seen a thing or two.

Luckily, we have a strong group of officers this year including Vice President Woodrow C. Crochet, III, MAI, Treasurer Michael T. Mooring, MAI, and Secretary, Lauren Snider, MAI, all relatively new designees. We look forward to working with them.

We will do our best, and all we can ask of you is to help us grow the profession in Louisiana. We need more members, and the ones we have need more visibility, both for themselves and for our organization.

Keep your internet presence up to date, and stay active in social networking. Contact local news outlets and offer to explain anything that they are having trouble deciphering the local market. Offer to write a regular column for your local newspaper. Speak to local civic organizations when asked, and if not asked give them a call.


Remember we are all in this together. - Bum ba dum!
